Go, For I Will Send You

*NOTICE: The emphasis of our discussion is to see how the Written Word (Bible) and the Spoken Word (Preaching) work together to build up the believer, so when you see WORD in the questions, know it refers to the Scripture and the Sermon.
Recap: Look back for evidence of God’s word reshaping your heart and life.
- Does anyone have a testimony to share how you applied last week’s “Respond” section?
Engage: Look into the Word of God in light of Sunday’s preached sermon.
2. Read Acts 22:17-30 together as a group and discuss your initial observations.
Reflect: Look deeper at the preached and written Word.
3. The offense of the gospel, as described in the sermon, is that salvation is for everyone, which means we all stand equally in need of it -- how does genuinely accepting your own spiritual need change the way you relate to people you might otherwise consider 'less deserving' of grace?
4. Have you ever struggled to accept something God was doing because it didn't fit your expectations of how He should work?
5. What do Paul’s words in verses 19–20 reveal about his understanding of his former life and persecution of Christians?
6. What does this passage teach us about God’s providence even when Paul appears to be in serious danger?
7. Paul didn't unnecessarily seek suffering, but neither did he compromise to avoid it. What does that teach us about courage and wisdom in following Christ?
8. Jesus bore the scourging Paul was spared, choosing not to use the protections he could have claimed -- how does reflecting on what Christ willingly endured for you affect your response to suffering you face in following him?
Respond: Choose one or two application steps from Sunday’s message and make a plan of action.
- Examine your presumptions. This week, pay attention to moments when you catch yourself telling God how his plan should work. When you notice it, pause and pray, surrendering that assumption to him.
- Identify a person beyond your comfort zone. Think of someone you have quietly written off as unlikely to respond to the gospel or unworthy of your spiritual investment. Commit to praying for that person by name every day this week.
- Inventory what you have undervalued. Make a short list of things about your background, personality, experiences, or circumstances that you tend to dismiss or overlook. Ask God to show you whether he might be using one of those things in his service right now.
- Reflect on suffering and sovereignty. If you or someone in your group is walking through a painful season, spend time discussing the truth that God rules over our pain even when he does not remove it. What does it look like to trust him in that space?
