Today we will look at the topic of the power of the praying church. Scripture demonstrates that when the local church prays, God moves.
WHAT IS INTERCESSION: Intercession is prayer offered to God on behalf of others, and appealing for God’s mercy, power, and will to be revealed in their lives.
- It carries the idea of , or “appealing on behalf of another”.
- When we intercede for someone through prayer we are being an —pleading for others before God.
- Intercession partners with by carrying the burdens of others in prayer.
- Intercession partners with God to see his will and fulfilled in other people.
MATTHEW 18 TEACHES WHEN BELIEVERS PRAYERFULLY SEEK GOD TOGETHER, CHRIST WILL BE GUIDING HIS PEOPLE.
MATTHEW 18: 19 Again I say to you, if two of you agree on earth about anything they ask, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven. 20 For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them.”
- The context of this passage is dealing with church discipline, reconciliation, and restoring a sinning brother or sister.
- How does this apply to today? When the church seeks the face of God together prayerfully, regarding the things of God, especially disciple, according to his will which is his word, God is present to guide.
WHEN THE CHURCH PRAYS TOGETHER

JAMES 5:16 says, “The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.”
2 CORINTHIANS Paul 5:21 For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
WHEN THE CHURCH PRAYS TOGETHER, GOD ON OUR BEHALF
- Prayer is not just a of a believer but how provision is found, life challenges are overcome, and real advancement is obtained.
- More can be in the work of prayer than all the financial analyst, therapist, doctors, strategy meetings, and interventions.
- It is more effective than acts of violence, anger, rage, disrespect, social media, and protests. There is time to act and when it is done after prayer it will .
1 JOHN 5: 14 And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask he hears us. 15 And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him.
WE CAN PRAY WITH CONFIDENCE THE WILL OF GOD
- The Bible outlines the desire of God very clearly and in the parameters of that knowledge we can pray with
- Books on leadership, management, strategy are wonderful, podcaster, youtubers are great resources—but can be found in the scriptures.
WE PRAY IN CONFIDENCE KNOWING GOD’S WILL BUT WE ALSO PRAY IN
JAMES 1: 5 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him. 6 But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind. 7 For that person must not suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; 8 he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways
