Sermon Talks
- Read John 8:12-20 as you prepare to work through the sermon talks.
- Think of a time when you were stuck in darkness. What was the situation? How did you feel when you finally received light?
- Based on His statement, “I am the light of the world,” what can you deduce about Jesus?
- What is the promise of verse 12? What is the condition (requirement) of the promise?
- What are the ways you personally know that Jesus has given you “the light of life?”
- Why do you think so many people are stuck in darkness? Why do you think so many are satisfied to be walking in darkness?
- Why are we sometimes tempted to hide our struggles or remain in the darkness rather than letting Christ’s light expose and heal them?
- Read the following verses: Psalm 27:1, Psalm 119:105, Matthew 5:14-16, Ephesians 5:8. What do these verses say about our need for the light and what we are to do with that light?
- How do you respond to the illustration about the soccer ball, baseball, stick, and nails? Who’s hands are you in? The world? God’s?
- How can you tangibly extend and reflect the light of Christ to others this week?
- In what way should these verses affect your prayer life?
- Allow the Holy Spirit to guide you in a time of prayer. Begin by praising God for who He is and what He has done in your life. Praise Him for your salvation.
